Independence Mine

In the early 1900s, Independence Mine was once a big gold mining operation nestled in the hills close to Palmer, Alaska. They operated up until the Second World War, and today, the buildings of this mining town are preserved for visitors to come see. Many of these photos were taken in an apartment house (exterior seen in the second last photo) that housed four families in a building that was divided into four separate apartments. And the large bunk house seen in the last photo housed the majority of miners who lived in Independence.

Shots taken with 35mm Kodak Portra 400.
